Team Motocorsa Racing and Alberto Surra are finally back on track at the Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours for Round 9 of the 2026 WorldSBK Championship. Following the abrupt end to the Donington Park weekend last July and the subsequent summer break, Friday in France marked a positive return to action for the Italian rider and the entire team.
Magny-Cours is a circuit that brings back great memories for Surra. It was here last year that Alberto claimed his first podium in the World Supersport Championship in 2025.
The feeling with the track was positive right from the opening laps of the morning. Surra started the weekend by finishing FP1 in fifth position, setting a time of 1’36.171, just 0.615 seconds off the fastest time of the session.
Work continued in FP2 in the afternoon, with Alberto running towards the top of the timesheets during the session. A particularly competitive lap, set while he was in second position, was later cancelled due to yellow flags. At the end of Friday’s two sessions, Surra nevertheless concluded the opening day with a positive seventh position in the combined standings.

“I would say that our first day here at Magny-Cours went really well. This afternoon, while we were in second position, I encountered a yellow flag and my lap time was cancelled. I’m definitely happy with the work we’ve done and I think we can aim for the top five over the course of the weekend. We just need to keep working well together with the team, as we have been doing so far.”

“We end this Friday, our first one back after the summer break, with seventh position in the combined standings, which is certainly an encouraging sign. It is a result that rewards the work done by the team, the training Alberto carried out during the break and the commitment of everyone working behind the scenes, from the team’s trainers to those in Alberto’s entourage. It is only Friday, but the data we have collected is positive. Tomorrow in FP3 we will try some additional solutions before taking on the Superpole in the best possible way.”
