MOTOCORSA RACING: SURRA BEST CAREER SUPERPOLE RESULT IN P5 AND AND P9 IN RACE 1

A high-level Saturday at the Most Autodrom for Team Motocorsa Racing and Alberto Surra in Round 5 of the 2026 WorldSBK Championship. After an outstanding Superpole session finished in fifth position — Surra’s best qualifying result so far in WorldSBK — the Italian rider confirmed his potential once again in Race 1, running with the leading group from the very early stages of the race.

However, the race was affected by a contact with Sam Lowes, Elf Marc VDS Racing Team, at Turn 16, an incident that resulted in a long lap penalty for the Italian rider. Despite the penalty, Surra managed to maintain a competitive pace and still finish Race 1 in ninth position, securing another important top 10 result for the team.

On a circuit he had never raced at before, the Italian rider showed strong competitiveness both over a single lap and in race pace, confirming the progress made together with Team Motocorsa Racing over the past few weeks.

ALBERTO SURRA – RIDER

“It has been a really great weekend so far. We managed to make another step forward also in race pace and it’s a shame about the long lap penalty in Race 1, because we could probably have finished higher than P9. Unfortunately there was an unintentional contact with Sam Lowes. I’m really sorry, I didn’t see him and the contact was probably caused by my wing. The important thing is that he is okay and wasn’t hurt. I’m also sorry for his team, Elf Marc VDS Racing Team, who will now have to repair the bike.”

LORENZO MAURI – TEAM MANAGER

“This morning’s Superpole was incredible. I’m really very happy for Alberto, for the team and for all our sponsors. Being up there in P5 is a huge result for us. In Race 1 we received a long lap penalty following the contact, but still finishing in P9 despite the penalty shows that we are working well and that the rider is improving round after round together with Team Motocorsa in his first year in this Championship.”
