First day of free practice at Phillip Island for Team Motocorsa Racing and Alberto Surra, competing in the opening round of the 2026 WorldSBK season. The Italian team focused mainly on building confidence with the new Ducati Panigale V4 RS 2026 and helping the rookie adapt to the Australian circuit.
The day ended with the 14th time in FP1, just about over a second from the reference lap, and 18th in FP2, a session affected by a crash that prevented further improvements on the timesheets.
ALBERTO SURRA – RIDER
“The feeling was very good today, we improved our lap time again and closed the gap to the front. We were just about one second off, with the top 14 positions being all incredibly close. It’s a shame about the crash during FP2 while we were working on race pace, which was quite good. I apologize to the team for the crash, they were quick to fix the problem and get me back on track. I’m really looking forward to tomorrow!”
LORENZO MAURI – TEAM MANAGER
“We started FP1 with good sensations, the rider was happy with the setup and we worked a lot on race pace. In the first part of FP2 there was a crash which damaged one of our bikes. The team managed to repair it during the session and get the rider back out, but we could not fully use the remaining time to improve our position. In tomorrow’s FP3, we’ll make the final adjustments ahead of the Superpole and Race 1.”
